Long ago, a king announced a grand prize to see who could paint the best picture depicting peace. Many artists excitedly submitted their best work. One of the public’s favorite paintings was a calm lake with a clear blue sky, perfectly mirroring snow-capped mountains. As the crowd gathered and talked, everyone thought this painting would win.

But when the king announced the painting he chose as the winner, everyone was shocked. The painting had rugged and bare mountains, and the sky looked very angry and was full of lightning. Many thought the artist mistakenly submitted a painting depicting a storm rather than of peace.

The king explained that if people looked closely at the painting, they could see a small bush growing in the cracks of a rock. In that bush, a mother bird had built her nest. Amid her stressful surroundings, the mother proudly sat on her nest with peace.

Get to the Point

You should have one obvious call to action for your postcard and create the rest of the design around driving home that point. Do you want customers to take advantage of an expensive offer for a high-end brand? Or are you looking for a fun response to a social media inquiry?

Be clear: Providing a specific call to action and benefits to your audience will help them engage with your message.

Be engaging: If one postcard is great, a series of postcards can provide you with an even greater impact.

The phrase “Google it” has become synonymous with searching for information on the web with just a click. However, Google is much more than just a search engine.

Here are a variety of ways you can use Google to simplify your life:

  • You can use Google as a timer and a stopwatch.

  • Find out the current time anywhere in the world by typing “time XYZ.”

  • Exclude terms with a minus (-) symbol. For example, best apps -apple for results that omit Apple.

  • You can search for a particular file type. For example, recipes filetype:pdf

  • Track flight status info by merely entering the airline and flight number.

  • Do a local search. For example, type in your city name and “coffee” and a list of local coffee shops will appear.

  • Search within a website. For instance, Travel Tips

  • Check out instant sports scores for NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc. by entering the team name into the search box.

  • Use Google as a calculator by typing in the calculation you’d like in the search box (ex: 5978/42=).

  • To not only search for your word but also its synonyms, place the tilde sign (~) immediately in front of your search term.

  • Track any package by simply entering the tracking number in the search box.
